THE RAINS AFFECT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

school
Atucucho is a district of the Quito City in Ecuador in South Amercia, became an easy target for the rains and several houses were affected by the avalanche and mud.

Atucucho became an easy target for the rains and several houses were affected by the avalanche and mud. On February 19th the force of nature hit the houses on 6th, 7th and 8th streets in this northern neighborhood. These streets became steps for the path of the landslide. The wall of house #270 fell. The wall could not resist the pressure from the wet ground. The wet ground could not support the intense rains from the night of Tuesday the 17th and the early morning of Wednesday the 18th. The structure of 19 meters fell on top of a room in the Guerron family\\\'s house. Vilma Guerron, one of the seven people living in that house confirmed that the retention wall that fell was built only 30 days ago. \\\"We knew that an accident was going to happen because of the heavy rains and because of that, we evacuated.\\\" The worst part happened to Blanca Piguave, a 47 year old woman who had to abandon her house on 6th street when a landslide surprised her at 7:05am. She had lived there for 17 years with her 4 year old son. \\\"She\\\'s a single woman and very concerned. Fortunately, a neighbor is giving her a place to stay,\\\" commented Hilda Defaz, Blanca\\\'s neighbor. The house of Hilda and her mother-in-law, Jackeline Iza was also damaged when the wall of their house on 7th street (where 3 families live-12 people) was knocked down by a landslide. Fortunately, the house remains standing. Hilda decided to abandon her house last night for fear that it was going to collapse. \\\"I saw that the walls did not have reinforcement and noted that they were very fragile.\\\" Therefore, the accident left no fatalities. Nevertheless, the affected families are staying in a community house. There are 10 families and about 30 kids sharing little rooms with matresses on the floor and one kitchen. The Christian Church of Atucucho shared with them bags of groceries and a time of visiting and prayer. Every night they get together to pray and thank God that He has been good.
